Pics | Multi-Truck Crash Causes Major Traffic Backlog on N3 Near Nottingham Road

A multi-truck crash earlier today caused a massive traffic jam on the N3 southbound, near Nottingham Road, outside Mooi River. The crash, which occurred early Friday morning, resulted in several injuries and left the roadway closed for hours.

Midlands EMS reported that upon arrival, emergency crews found multiple trucks involved in the collision, causing significant damage and debris scattered across the road. Authorities, including traffic police and emergency services, worked tirelessly throughout the morning to clear the scene and manage the flow of traffic.

By 7 am, both Durban-bound lanes of the N3 were completely blocked, causing severe congestion and long delays for motorists. To ease the situation, the KZN Transport Department temporarily diverted traffic onto the R103, advising all drivers to approach the area with caution due to the ongoing recovery efforts.

As of noon, the accident scene had been cleared, and all lanes on the N3 were reopened. However, the N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) reported that traffic remained slow-moving due to a backlog from the earlier crash. Additionally, several trucks that had been stuck in the traffic jam broke down, causing further delays.

Motorists are urged to remain patient and drive carefully as the backlog clears. The N3 route is fully operational, and traffic is expected to return to normal shortly. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely.
