Harare- Motorists using the Harare-Chirundu highway (A1) have been warned of serious traffic disruptions as the Kariba Dream houseboat is transported to join sister boat the African Dream in Lake Kariba from Sunday 23 February 2020.
Authorities reported that the luxury yacht’s first stop will be Westgate just outside Harare. The abnormal load will leave Westgate at 07h00 and proceed towards Chinhoyi on the A1 highway.
The 360 KM journey from Harare to Lake Kariba is expected to cause traffic chaos as overtaking will be next to impossible.
The Kariba Dream specifications
- The Kariba Dream houseboat is 33.4m in length, 8.3m wide,
- 130 tonnes net weight,
- It has 8 double en-suite cabins which takes a maximum of 16 guests,
- 9 crew,
- weighs 190 tonnes when fully loaded,
- it has a 5 star standard rating for international guests.
The route is notoriously narrow even for trucks hence traffic authorities have warned motorists to be extra careful when approaching the gigantic load.
