Graaff-Reinet – The transformer that had been lying off the R75 near Ravelskloof, about 15km north of Jansenville, has finally been recovered. The operation, led by P&L Machine and Rigging, was successfully carried out on Wednesday, 18 June 2025, under the close supervision of traffic authorities.
The recovery marks the end of a delicate process that began after a heavy-duty truck carrying the massive transformer overturned earlier this year, in March. Since then, the transformer had remained partially off the road, with authorities monitoring the situation and planning a safe removal.
According to the Acting Provincial Traffic Station Chief Tyaliti, who was previously on-site during the preparatory stages, the recovery was executed without incident and with minimal disruption to traffic.

Throughout the recovery operation, the R75 remained open, though motorists were advised to proceed with caution. Traffic officers were deployed to the site to manage vehicle flow and ensure safety for both road users and personnel on the ground.
“We appreciate the public’s cooperation and patience during the recovery,” said a statement issued earlier by local traffic authorities.

With the transformer now cleared from the area, normal traffic conditions have resumed, but drivers are still urged to remain cautious, especially when passing through the stretch of road affected by the incident.
SA Trucker commends the efforts of P&L Machine and Rigging and the various law enforcement units for handling the operation with professionalism and efficiency.
