Cape Town – Organisers of the Truckers Charity Convoy in Cape Town have expressed their gratitude to all the truckers, bikers and families who attended the event on Sunday 4 October 2020.

Close to 50 Cape Town based short and long-haul trucks and several bikers paraded at Killarney International Raceway for the annual Truckers Charity Convoy.

Truckers Charity Convoy spokesperson Ruan Smith said the event is held every year in support of the Cancer Association of South Africa’s campaign for toys for children with cancer.

The gentle highway giants met at Engen Winelands on the N1 at 10h00 before they rolled to the Killarney international Raceway in an eyecatching colourful convoy.

Level 1 health and safety protocols were enforced, as was physical distancing and mask-wearing, but no mask could hide the smiles of the truckers and their children, and the Cansa volunteers, as they filled a one-ton bakkie to overflowing with soft toys. The toys will go to brighten hospital wards and surgeries countrywide.

“As per Covid-19 protocol participants had their temperature checked, hands sanitised and they completed a health and safety questionnaire, before parking on the oval behind the Killarney Clubhouse,” said Smith.

The family event became Killarney’s first major event since the lockdown and as expected brought smiles to participants.
