Two people were killed in a truck accident on the N3 freeway near the Tugela Toll Plaza in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The highway was closed for about six hours as emergency personnel attended to the injured.
Con Roux of the N3 Toll Concession said two trucks travelling southbound, towards Durban, collided near the Tugela Toll Plaza about 2am.
According to reports from the scene the fatal truck crash was a secondary accident after another truck had left the road earlier at the same place.

No one was injured in the first accident as the truck just left the road but did not overturn.
In the second crash, however, two people died after their truck collided into the back of another truck which had slowed down because of the first accident.
Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the horrific accident.
Robert McKenzie of KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Service said two people died and three others were seriously injured.
