Police seek relatives of man killed in Winburg head-on collision with truck

Free State police are searching for the next of kin of Nicolas Yusuf who was killed in a head-on collision with a truck.

Nicolas Yusuf, who is believed to be from Nigeria, died in a head-on collision with a truck on the N5 road in Winburg on Friday, 14 August 2020 at about 05h30.

It is alleged that Yusuf was with his friend, Bright Walker who was the driver when their vehicle allegedly failed to stop at the Winburg N5 T-junction and collided with an oncoming truck that was headed to the N1.

The vehicle that the two friends were driving in burst into flames upon impact and as a result, their bodies burned beyond recognition.

Winburg police opened a case of culpable homicide and preliminary investigation led them to find Walker’s family based in Johannesburg who identified him and claimed his body.

Yusuf’s family has not yet come forward and police appeal to anyone who might know Yusuf or his family to contact Detective Constable Liezel Van Der Westhuizen at 082 301 9668 or 051 881 8300.
