Prominent Durban Trucking Couple Killed in Durban House Fire

Tragedy struck the Durban trucking community on Tuesday morning after a devastating house fire claimed the lives of a couple believed to be in their 60s.

The fatal blaze broke out just after 06:30 in Midmar Road, Shallcross, south of Durban. ALS Paramedics and emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of a house engulfed in flames.

According to ALS spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, eThekwini firefighters battled the fire while paramedics treated six people who managed to escape with minor injuries.

“Once the flames were under control, paramedics were called in to search the structure. Sadly, they found two occupants inside who had sustained fatal injuries,” said Jamieson.

The couple who perished are understood to be well-known businesspeople in the trucking sector. Their company is one of Durban’s major players in the road freight and logistics space, with operations across the country.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

As word spread, tributes began pouring in from the local transport fraternity, many in shock at the sudden loss of a family that played such a pivotal role in the industry.
