R33 Closed Near Lephalale After Fiery Truck Crash Involving Hazardous Chemicals

Traffic on the R33 between Lephalale and Vaalwater has been brought to a standstill following a serious accident involving a truck in the early hours of Wednesday, 8 October 2025.

Preliminary reports indicate that a collision led to one of the trucks catching fire. The vehicle was carrying hazardous chemicals, forcing authorities to launch an urgent emergency response due to the potential danger.

Emergency services, including fire and hazardous materials teams, were quickly dispatched to the scene. The road will remain closed until safety inspections, clean-up operations, and recovery work have been completed.

Motorists travelling between Lephalale and Vaalwater are advised to avoid the R33 and instead use the R510 via Thabazimbi, then continue towards Bulgeriver as an alternative route.
