Traffic was being diverted onto the M61 road. No arrests have been made.

The R59 between Johannesburg and the Vaal was on Tuesday barricaded by protesters with debris and burning tyres placed along the RandVaal interchange.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela said the protesters were demanding houses.

“Public order policing remain on the scene to keep an eye on the protesters. Motorists are advised to avoid the R59 and use alternative roads,” said Makhubela.
