A shocking crash involving a Citylink bus and a minibus taxi has claimed several lives in the town of Manhiça, in Mozambique’s southern Maputo Province.
The deadly collision, caught on CCTV and shared online, shows how a dangerous overtake attempt turned into a tragedy within seconds.
In the footage, a minibus taxi enters the frame from the right, travelling towards the left of the screen. At the same time, a truck approaches from the opposite direction. As the two vehicles close in on each other, a speeding bus suddenly appears from behind the truck.
The bus attempts to overtake by moving into the oncoming lane, directly into the path of the passing taxi. The vehicles collide head-on at high speed, resulting in a horrific impact.
Sources who spoke to SA Trucker allege that all occupants of the taxi perished in the accident, though official confirmation is yet to be issued by authorities.
The crash has sparked outrage and concern over reckless driving habits on Mozambique’s roads, with many calling for stricter enforcement and better defensive driving awareness among public transport operators.
The scene serves as a chilling reminder of the consequences of impatience and risky overtaking on busy corridors, especially at holiday time when traffic volumes rise.
