Reinhardt Transport Group wins two Chrome Awards as late founder receives lifetime honour

Reinhardt Transport Group (RTG) has taken home two awards at the 2026 Chrome Dinner, while its late founder Derick Reinhardt was also honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

RTG was recognised as Best Service Provider, while its Commercial Professional Driver Academy (CPD Academy) received the Corporate and Social Responsibility Award at the Chrome Dinner in Johannesburg on 17 September.

The awards put both RTG’s transport operation and its investment in professional driver development in the spotlight.

The Best Service Provider award recognises companies making a notable contribution through the quality of their service. The Chrome Dinner’s organisers specifically highlighted RTG’s commitment to reliable service delivery, operational excellence and the safe and efficient movement of product.

For the trucking industry, the recognition is particularly relevant because the movement of chrome and other commodities relies heavily on road transport and the companies operating the trucks, trailers and logistics networks behind those supply chains.

CPD Academy recognised for driver development

RTG’s second award went to its Commercial Professional Driver Academy, which was recognised under the Corporate and Social Responsibility category.

The Chrome Dinner describes this category as recognising initiatives that contribute to community, employee or education development. RTG’s CPD Academy nomination focused on its aim of setting a benchmark for the future training of commercial drivers in South Africa.

That makes the award more than just another corporate recognition. Professional driver training remains an important part of the road freight industry, particularly as transport companies look for drivers who can meet the demands of modern commercial vehicle operations.

A special award for RTG’s late founder

The evening also carried a more personal significance for the Reinhardt family.

Derick Reinhardt, who founded the business in 1982 with a single truck, received the Chrome Dinner’s Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously. The award was accepted by his children.

The Chrome Dinner says the Lifetime Achievement Award recognises an individual whose career has made a lasting contribution to the chrome and ferrochrome industry, including decades of dedication, leadership, innovation and service.

Reinhardt died in June 2026 at the age of 73. RTG has since continued to operate on the foundation established during more than four decades of growth.

The company’s current profile says the group has grown from that single truck into a major Southern African logistics operation, with its activities spanning bulk commodity transport, mining logistics and other specialised logistics services.

For RTG, the three awards therefore represented more than a night of trophies.

They recognised the company’s current role as a transport and logistics service provider, its investment in developing professional drivers, and the legacy of the man who started the business more than 40 years ago.

RTG described the occasion as a proud moment for its people and thanked those who continue to contribute to the group’s journey.

For an industry built around trucks, drivers and keeping commodities moving, it was also a reminder that the businesses behind those movements are shaped over many years by people, training and relationships on and off the road.
