Relief at the Pumps: South African Fuel Prices Expected to Fall in September

Motorists across South Africa can look forward to some welcome relief at the fuel pumps in September, as both petrol and diesel prices are projected to decrease. This anticipated drop comes after months of financial strain due to rising fuel costs.

The Central Energy Fund (CEF) has indicated that, should current market conditions persist, the following adjustments are expected:

  • Petrol 93: A decrease of 12 cents per litre.
  • Petrol 95: A decrease of 6 cents per litre.
  • Diesel 0.05%: A decrease of 17 cents per litre.
  • Diesel 0.005%: A decrease of 19 cents per litre.
  • Illuminating Paraffin: A decrease of 14 cents per litre.

These projections are based on favourable international oil prices and a strengthening rand against the US dollar. The global oil market has seen a decline of 12.1% in the first half of 2025, with an additional 8% drop this month alone, attributed to easing trade and geopolitical tensions.

This trend is expected to continue, potentially leading to further price reductions in the coming months.

In summary, September 2025 holds promise for South African motorists, with anticipated fuel price decreases offering much-needed financial relief. However, it’s essential to stay informed through official channels to confirm the exact adjustments as they are announced.
