Boksburg – A late-night robbery turned deadly when a group of armed suspects stormed a trucking depot on Old Main Road and met fierce resistance from one of the drivers.
The brazen robbery happened just before midnight on Thursday, around 23h50, when the robbers overpowered security guards at the entrance of the depot and went straight for the truck drivers resting in their vehicles.
According to sources on the scene, the suspects moved from truck to truck, waking up the sleeping drivers and tying them up in the toilet using cable ties.
But their mission came to an abrupt halt when they knocked on one truck and were unexpectedly greeted with gunfire from the driver inside.
A shootout ensued, forcing the criminals to flee the scene in panic.

While they did manage to get away with several cellphones, cash, and other personal belongings from the drivers, they left behind something more costly — the body of one of their own, found shot dead in the depot yard.
No truck drivers were reported injured in the shootout. However, the trauma of the incident has left many shaken.
Police confirmed that no arrests have been made at this stage and investigations are underway. The identity of the deceased suspect has not yet been released.
This incident highlights the rising danger truckers face on the job, even in the safety of their depots. Hats off to the driver who stood his ground and potentially saved the rest of his colleagues from a worse fate.
