The South African Police Service in Tshwane has successfully recovered a Freightliner truck transporting medical supplies worth an estimated R2.5 million, following a hijacking incident in the Wierdabrug policing area on Friday morning, 21 November 2025.
According to police, the truck was hijacked at approximately 08:00 while transporting Codeine medication. The vehicle’s tracking system was immediately activated and the information was circulated through various SAPS operational channels, including surrounding police stations and specialised response units.
A coordinated tracking operation was launched without delay, making use of real time intelligence and ground support. At around 11:00, officers managed to trace the truck to Monument Road in Mnandi, within the Olievenhoutbosch policing precinct.
Upon arrival at the location, police members found the Freightliner parked and one suspect inside the vehicle. The suspect was arrested on the scene and taken into custody for further processing. An initial inspection confirmed that the truck’s cargo was still intact and had not been tampered with.
The SAPS Crime Scene Management team was deployed to process the site. Evidence gathered will form part of the ongoing investigation and prosecution.
Tshwane District Commissioner Major General Samuel Thine praised the swift and coordinated response of all involved teams, highlighting the importance of joint operational work in fighting organised crime.

Major General Thine said the recovery demonstrates the effectiveness of integrated policing and strong cooperation between SAPS units and private sector partners, particularly within the logistics and freight security environment. The suspect is expected to appear in court soon on charges related to hijacking and possession of suspected stolen property. Police investigations continue.
