Police in Musina have opened a case of attempted murder and launched a manhunt for five armed suspects following a violent incident at a truck stop behind Musina China Mall in the early hours of Saturday, 6 June 2026.
The incident happened at around 00:45 when a 42-year-old security officer was on duty and was approached by five unknown men wearing balaclavas. Police say one of the suspects was allegedly armed with a firearm.
The group confronted the officer and instructed him to take them to a parked truck at the premises. On arrival, the victim noticed that the rear door of the truck had already been opened.
The suspects allegedly ordered him to assist in offloading cargo from the vehicle. When he refused, he was assaulted, and during the confrontation one suspect allegedly drew a firearm and shot him in the right thigh.
The suspects then fled the scene on foot into nearby bushes.
Emergency medical services responded and transported the injured security officer to hospital for treatment.

During a preliminary investigation, police discovered that several goods had already been removed from the truck and hidden in surrounding bushes. The recovered items include 138 boxes of Kellogg’s noodles, 56 boxes of Pringles Pops, four boxes of Aero chocolate, and 22 tins of Lucky Star fish.
A bolt cutter, believed to have been used during the incident, was also recovered at the scene.
The truck driver, a Malawian national, later confirmed that all goods were accounted for and nothing was ultimately stolen.
Police have confirmed that a case of attempted murder has been opened and a manhunt is underway for the five suspects.
