Seshego Vehicle Testing Station Manager Busted for Trying to Bribe Cop With R5000

A manager from a Seshego Private Vehicle Testing Station is in hot water after allegedly trying to bribe a police investigator probing fraud and corruption at his workplace. The manager is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 18 July, for a formal bail application.

According to a media release from the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the suspect was arrested on Monday, 14 July, after offering a R5000 cash bribe to an investigating officer. The officer is part of a joint anti-corruption operation involving the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit and the Limpopo Hawks.

It’s alleged the manager initially offered R8000 to have cellphones returned and devices that were seized during an earlier raid at the testing station as part of the ongoing investigation. The RTMC says an entrapment order was secured, and the officer arranged to meet the suspect in Polokwane.

“At the meeting, the manager handed over R5000 to the investigating officer, and he was immediately arrested. The cash was seized as an exhibit,” the statement reads.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the integrity of private vehicle testing stations, which have come under increasing scrutiny for irregular issuing of roadworthy certificates.

The RTMC has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on corruption and says it will continue to work closely with law enforcement to root out criminal elements within the road traffic environment.
