Shongweni truck suv crash

Two people have been killed in an accident between an articulated truck and a SUV on Kassier Road in Shongweni on Wednesday evening.

Meditech Emergency Response paramedics reported that they responded to the crash at 17h00 near the corners of Kassier Road and Mr559 Rtr when traveling towards Shongweni Dam, in the Outer West Region.

“When paramedics arrived on the scene it was found that a SUV and Truck, carrying horses, collided head on,” read part of the statement by Meditech ER.

“Upon assessment it was found that two adult occupants from the SUV, as well as their beloved Canine, sustained fatal injuries.”

The truck driver and his assistant sustained moderate injuries and were stabilized on the scene before they were transported to hospital for further medical care.

All horses were found to have escaped without sustaining any injuries.

Meditech ER Paramedics together with Metro Police assisted the Ethekwini Fire Department to free the deceased occupants and Canine from the vehicle by using the jaws of life.

The exact events leading up to the accident will be investigated by local authorities.
