A joint police operation involving multiple specialised units led to the arrest of six suspects aged between 28 and 48 following a truck hijacking incident on the R559 between Carletonville and Randfontein on Thursday, 30 October 2025.
The operation, which included members of the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, Drug Task Team, Tactical Response Team (TRT) Klerksdorp, Johannesburg K9, Carletonville Detectives, Gauteng West Rand District Rural Safety, and private security companies, was launched after police received a tip-off about a planned hijacking.
According to police reports, the truck transporting meat worth more than R500 000 from Potchefstroom was hijacked at around 07:45. Acting swiftly, the multidisciplinary team intercepted the suspects and recovered the stolen truck along with its full load.
In addition to the hijacked vehicle, three other vehicles believed to have been used in the crime were seized at the scene.
The six suspects are expected to appear before the Carletonville Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 3 November 2025, facing charges of hijacking and kidnapping.
