Durban – Six truck drivers were arrested on Saturday, 11 January 2025, after police officers from Operation Vala Umgodi intercepted trucks carrying suspected stolen coal on the N2 Highway in Pongola.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the arrests, stating that police had acted on intelligence about trucks travelling from Witbank to an undisclosed destination in Richards Bay.

“Police received information about trucks suspected to be transporting coal stolen in Witbank. Acting on this intelligence, officers intercepted the trucks, and upon searching them, found suspected stolen coal,” said Colonel Netshiunda.

The drivers, aged between 38 and 50, were arrested at the scene.
Colonel Netshiunda added that the suspects are expected to appear in the Pongola Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 January 2025.
