Six-Year-Old Among Two Killed After Water Tanker Crashes Into Edendale Homes

A tragic accident in Edendale yesterday evening has claimed the lives of two people, including a six-year-old child, after a water tanker lost control and crashed into two homes.

According to Mi7 Emergency Medical Services, the incident unfolded when the tanker, which was transporting drinking water, veered off the roadway and ploughed into the residential properties.

Mi7 EMS teams arrived to find widespread devastation, with emergency personnel already on the scene attending to the injured.

Five people had already been transported to nearby hospitals before Mi7 EMS’s arrival, including a 13-year-old child who was critically injured after being trapped under the wreckage, two adults, and a six-month-old infant.

The driver of the tanker was also among those taken to hospital for treatment.

Mi7 EMS crews remained on scene to assist in the ongoing rescue operations, which were led by the Pietermaritzburg Fire Department and SAPS Search and Rescue teams.

Two individuals remained unaccounted for, prompting an extensive and delicate search through the rubble.

After nearly two hours of search efforts, rescuers recovered the body of a six-year-old child trapped beneath the debris.

Another two hours later, the body of an adult woman was located. Sadly, Mi7 paramedics declared both victims deceased on the scene.

In a statement, Mi7 EMS extended their condolences to the loved ones of the deceased and wished those injured a successful recovery.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
