Slight Drop Confirmed for June Fuel Prices

Motorists across South Africa will see some slight relief at the pumps from midnight tonight, as the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced fuel price decreases for June — marking the fourth straight month of reductions.

According to Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe, the price cuts are attributed to a stronger rand against the US dollar and a drop in international oil prices.

The official changes, effective from Wednesday, 4 June 2025, are as follows:

– Petrol (both 93 and 95 octane): Decrease of 5 cents per litre
– Diesel (0.05% and 0.005% sulphur): Decrease of 37 cents per litre
– Illuminating paraffin: Decrease of 56 cents per litre

However, the reductions would have been greater if not for recent tax adjustments. In his May budget speech, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced a 16c/l increase in the General Fuel Levy for petrol and a 15c/l increase for diesel.
