Pics: Stolen Diesel Recovered After High-Speed Chase in Durban

225 Litres of stolen diesel, as well as a Nissan Hardbody bakkie that was used in the theft, was recovered by members of Reaction Unit South Africa following a high-speed chase on Saturday night.

At approximately 20:10 members of Reaction Officers received a tip-off regarding the theft of diesel.

The caller stated that the occupants of a Nissan Hardbody bakkie were siphoning diesel out of a truck and into plastic 25 litre drums at a remote location in Phoenix, north of Durban. Reaction Officers proceeded to the location and upon arrival noticed both the truck and the bakkie leaving the scene.

Upon noticing the approaching Officers the bakkie sped off resulting in a high-speed chase. At one point the driver of the Nissan bakkie rammed into the pursuing Officers vehicle in an attempt to evade arrest.

The chase ended in KwaMashu after the suspect abandoned his vehicle and fled through the taxi rank. Officers secured the vehicle and recovered the stolen diesel and several hose pipes that were used to siphon the fuel from the truck.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and a passport belonging to a 27 year old Zimbabwean national was recovered. Backup vehicles proceeded to the location of the truck however it could not be located.

The suspect’s vehicle was handed over to Police for further investigation. Reaction Unit South Africa
