Suspects caught redhanded offloading R6 million worth alcohol allegedly smuggled into the country

Sixteen suspects have been arrested and R6 million worth of alcohol confiscated in Brackenhurst, Gauteng, Comaro Chronicle has reported.

Police pounced on the 16 suspects at a property where they were busy offloading the truck loaded with alcohol which was allegedly smuggled into the country on the pretext that it was food.

On April 23 a team for Fox Security responded to information of a suspicious truck offloading in Brackenhurst.

They joined with SAPS JHB K9-180 to go to where the truck was being offloaded.

According to Fox Security, this property had been monitored for a few days before the arrival of the truck.

When the combined forces arrived on the scene they found a truck with a 12-meter container.

Reportedly this container contained liquor imported from Ghana.

The value of the load is estimated at R6.2 million.

The container was reportedly imported into South Africa on the premise that it contained food.

The officers arrested 16 suspects on the property where they were busy offloading the truck.

SAPS have not yet commented on the arrest.
