A former leader of the ATDF-ASA in Gauteng has reportedly been arrested following a shocking road rage incident near Nigel, Gauteng.
The man, who previously served as the vice chairperson of the organisation, was caught on video attacking a motorist and a young schoolgirl in what many have described as a cowardly and disgraceful act.
In the now-viral footage, the suspect’s white Isuzu bakkie is seen on the wrong side of the road, seemingly blocking a Renault Triber.
Moments later, the man climbs onto the Triber’s bonnet and leaping over to confront the driver. He is then seen physically assaulting the man before turning his rage towards the young girl in school uniform seated inside the car.
Social media reports suggest that the incident was sparked when the suspect refused to yield to vehicles trying to pass on the oncoming lane, which was the only open path due to a broken-down vehicle blocking his lane. His refusal to cooperate allegedly escalated tensions, ultimately resulting in the violent altercation.
Community members, outraged by the assault, are said to have chased down the suspect. He was eventually apprehended and handed over to Duduza police. Photos circulating online show both the suspect and the victims at the police station.
SA Trucker can confirm that the suspect is one of three former ATDF-ASA leaders who were suspended in 2024 amid serious allegations of extortion. According to a statement released at the time, “the ATDF-ASA leadership distanced itself from the trio, stating that they were using the organisation’s name to solicit money from truck owners in the name of job placements.”
ATDF-ASA had issued a stern warning to transporters not to entertain the suspended individuals and clarified that any such dealings would be at the transporter’s own risk.
This latest incident raises further questions about the former leader’s conduct and character, reinforcing the concerns raised by ATDF-ASA when they took disciplinary action against him and his associates.
Police investigations are ongoing.
