Ten People Tragically Killed in R42 Taxi and Bus Truck Accident in Delmas

Ten people lost their lives in a tragic side-swipe collision involving a minibus taxi and a bus truck on the R42 Road near Delmas early Monday morning around 01h00.

According to the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, eight of the deceased were occupants in the minibus taxi, including the driver, while two were in the bus truck.

All victims were declared dead at the scene.

Approximately 24 people sustained serious injuries in the crash, with 18 of the injured being occupants of the bus truck and six from the minibus taxi.

The injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Initial reports indicate that the minibus taxi was travelling on the N12 Road from Johannesburg and entered the R42.

The driver was allegedly attempting to return to the N12 from the R42 when the collision occurred.

The taxi was headed towards Emalahleni while the bus truck was en route to Bronkhorstspruit.

The taxi was also pulling a trailer at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown, and an investigation is underway.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Jackie Macie, has expressed shock at this horrific incident, urging motorists to exercise caution at all times on the road.

“It is sad to see so many people losing their lives on the road. We are appealing for greater caution on the part of drivers to avoid these tragedies,” Macie said.

He extended his condolences to the families affected by this tragedy and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
