Sam ‘Mshengu’ Chabalala (23) has poured his heart out on Instagram, thanking his supporters for being by his side while in custody and during his bail application.
The young Mpumalanga business tycoon said his arrest was an act of jealousy.
“A lot of people that I thought were my friends never pitched up, but I don’t blame them as they say when days are dark, friends are few,” he said.
He warned his fans not to post their achievements on social media as it attracted enemies.
Paying tribute to his general manager, Nkosinathi Ngcobo (30), who was shot while at Sam Holdings truck depot in Bethal on 12 September, Chabalala said, “I knew you better as much as you knew me better than anyone, I still can’t believe that you are no more, and what pains me most is that I didn’t make it to be on your funeral to say goodbye bafo due to my health.”
“They first started with me with food poisoning while I was in police custody and they come to kill you.”
A 26-year-old man believed to be one of the hitmen has since been arrested.
Chabalala made headlines when he led a convoy of 72 luxurious cars to the Durban July.
He’s facing charges of corruption, fraud, contravention of the Immigration Act and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He will appear in court again on 22 November.
He’s out on R200 000 bail.
