Three Minors Among Four Killed in R60 Truck-Taxi Crash Near Worcester

A devastating crash on the R60 near Overhex Crossing claimed four lives early this morning, with Western Cape officials confirming that three of the victims were minors.

The collision, which occurred at approximately 06:25, involved a heavy motor vehicle and a minibus taxi. Emergency services rushed to the scene where they found the tragic aftermath — four fatalities and four more individuals with serious injuries.

Western Cape Mobility Department spokesperson Muneera Ali confirmed the incident, stating, “We can confirm a collision involving a heavy motor vehicle and a minibus taxi on the R60 at Overhex Crossing this morning. Tragically, four people lost their lives, including three minors, and four others sustained serious injuries.”

Authorities have since closed the R60 in both directions as rescue teams and law enforcement work on site. Motorists travelling through the area have been urged to take alternate routes to avoid the affected section of the road.

Ali also moved swiftly to address circulating rumours suggesting the taxi was operating as scholar transport. “We wish to clarify that, contrary to social media reports, the taxi involved was not transporting schoolchildren under scholar transport services,” she said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, with officials piecing together witness accounts and evidence from the scene.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the local community, and emergency responders have offered condolences to the affected families.
