Total Closure of N1 South at Maraisburg Following Truck Accident and Diesel Spill

Johannesburg – The N1 South freeway has been completely shut down before the Maraisburg Road off-ramp following a serious crash involving two trucks earlier today.

One of the trucks overturned and spilled diesel across the roadway, prompting emergency services to close all lanes to manage the cleanup and recovery safely.

Initially, three lanes were closed, but due to the severity of the spillage and wreckage, a full closure was implemented.

Three people sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Emergency services, including firefighters, paramedics, and JMPD officers, are on the scene.

Motorists are being diverted at Gordon Road, but heavy congestion has already backed up traffic for several kilometres.

Surrounding routes like 14th Avenue and Hendrick Potgieter Road are also experiencing major delays as vehicles are redirected.

According to officials, the N1 South is expected to remain closed for at least another four hours while the diesel is cleared and the overturned truck is recovered.

Motorists are strongly urged to avoid the N1 South before Maraisburg Road.

Use alternative routes where possible and brace for significant delays throughout the afternoon peak.

Drivers using alternate roads are reminded to remain cautious and patient, as traffic volumes are increasing rapidly in those areas.
