Traffic on the N1 southbound near The Ranch outside Polokwane has been brought to a standstill this morning after a truck lost control and spilled its entire load of cement bags across the highway before crashing.
According to sources at the scene, the incident occurred when the truck suffered a front tyre blowout, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle swerved before coming to a stop, leaving both southbound lanes completely covered in cement and the trailer is also partially blocking the road.
Motorists say the situation has created a dangerous driving environment, with the thick layer of cement posing a major slip hazard to passing vehicles. Traffic has already begun backing up for several kilometres as authorities rush to the scene.
