Transnet introduces Haulier Driver Permit to Durban port


RE: HAULIER DRIVER REGISTRATION: PORT OF DURBAN

As part of the National Ports Authority’s ongoing drive to ensure Maritime Security
compliance to secure the Port and our valued customers assets and products, the Port of
Durban will be embarking on a Haulier Driver Permit Habour Carriers Permit registration
process.

The mandatory registration of all haulier drivers will take place between 11 March 2021
and 30 April 2021. Each approved driver will be issued with a TNPA Access Permit that
allows access into the Port and all cargo handling facilities.

How to Apply:

Each driver must apply via the Port IPMS system (please refer to IPMS permit application
guideline attached).

Upload or attach the following supporting documents in PDF format:

• Fully completed Annexure A form for e-mailed applications
• Dully signed Annexure C
• Copy of South African ID
• Copy of SA driver’s license (valid PrDP)
• Foreign National must provide a copy of the bio page of passport as well as the copy of
their status in the passport
A copy of issuer country driver’s license, if not a member country of SADC, an RSA issued PrDP
• Refugees please provide copies of Refugee permit:
o A copy of issuer country driver’s license, if not a member country of SADC, an RSA
issued PrDP
• A letter from the employer indicating the information required above duly signed by an
authorised signatory (IPMS Applications).
• Drivers with TNPA Access permits from other Ports must declare when applying, the
same permit will be activated in the Port of Durban.

All fully completed applications requests will be processed within 7 days and the approved
applicant will be notified via the Permit Office. An appointment will be scheduled to allow for the issue of the Port Access card at Port Permit issuing office.

As an interim measure, the Port will only allow drivers complying with the permit conditions of “valid Identity Document” (please refer to Annexure C). No other form of identification will be accepted when requiring access to the Port or any ISPS facility within the Port.

Please note that as from 01 May 2021, no haulier will be permitted to enter the Port of
Durban without a valid TNPA Port Access Card.

All non-compliant drivers will be referred
to the Permit Office at Bay Terrace to make application as detailed above.
