In a dramatic early Monday morning operation, members of the Gauteng Traffic Police and Gauteng Traffic Wardens STT (Eastern Corridor) recovered a hijacked truck and its two trailers in Reiger Park, Boksburg, after spotting suspicious activity during a routine patrol.
While patrolling in the early hours, officers noticed a truck with two trailers, escorted by a Mercedes-Benz, entering a dark veld with its lights off. Sensing something was amiss, the officers followed and attempted to stop the vehicles.
The suspects in the Mercedes-Benz abandoned their car and fled on foot into the veld, evading capture. However, the truck driver was apprehended at the scene.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered that the trailers had been hijacked in Mpumalanga. The truck, loaded with valuable cargo, was traced back to a reported hijacking incident in the province, though specific details about the cargo and exact location of the hijacking remain under investigation.
