A truck driver was arrested on the N1 southbound in the Free State after traffic officers discovered 51 people, including 28 illegal immigrants, crammed into the rear trailer of his tautliner superlink trailer during a roadblock.
The group included 47 adults and four children aged between nine months and five years.
The illegal immigrants, all from Lesotho, were detained for contravening the Immigration Act, while the driver faces charges for transporting passengers for reward without a valid operating license.
The truck was impounded, leaving the driver in hot water as investigations continue.

This incident occurred during heightened police operations as part of the Safer Festive Season Campaign.
