A truck driver and his assistant lost their lives after their vehicle plunged down an embankment along the R101 at Du Toits Kloof Pass in the Western Cape on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred on the outbound section of the R101, just before the weighbridge, prompting emergency teams to scramble to the scene in an attempt to rescue the trapped men.
Reports indicate that both the driver and his assistant were pulled from the wreckage alive but critically injured.
They were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. Tragically, despite medical efforts, both men later succumbed to their injuries.
The exact cause remains unknown.
