KLERKSDORP – A chilling tragedy unfolded at the intersection of the N12 and R503 in Klerksdorp last night when a truck driver was brutally murdered in a well-known crime hotspot. His desperate plea for help was heard – but not in time to save his life.
An alert trucker, who noticed a white Volvo tanker parked on the roadside with its driver’s door open, stopped to investigate. As he looked around, he saw a man struggling to walk toward him.
“I am dying, please help,” the man uttered, his voice weak and desperate.
Realizing the extreme danger of the area, the trucker made a split-second decision – he turned his truck around and rushed to a nearby casino to seek help while frantically calling emergency services.
As he drove, he spotted a police van carrying three officers and flagged it down. He urgently explained the situation, hoping they would act immediately.
The officers assured him they would respond right away, giving him a moment of relief. But when he returned to the scene, his heart sank – the police were nowhere to be seen, and neither was the injured driver.
The Volvo tanker remained in the same spot, its driver’s door ominously left open.
Fearing for his own safety in the notorious area, the trucker decided to head to a nearby truck stop. On the way, he contacted SA Trucker, who quickly dispatched emergency services to the scene.

By a twist of fate, upon reaching the truck stop, the trucker encountered another driver from the victim’s company. He recounted the horrifying events, prompting the second driver to contact their office and check up on their missing colleague.
Meanwhile, when police eventually arrived at the scene, they initially failed to locate the driver. But after SA Trucker insisted they expand their search, officers combed the area – only to make a grim discovery.
The trucker’s lifeless body lay in a nearby field, a stab wound piercing the left side of his chest.
The exact circumstances surrounding the murder remain unknown, and police have launched an investigation.
The trucker who tried to help is devastated. “I barely slept last night. I keep replaying the moment in my head, wondering if I could have done something differently,” he admitted, haunted by the thought that he hadn’t been able to save his fellow driver.
This heartbreaking incident is yet another reminder of the growing dangers truck drivers face on South African roads.
Our highways have become crime corridors, and the lives of those who keep our economy moving are constantly at risk.
REST IN POWER, TRUCKER. You deserved better. 🕊️💔
