Truck Driver Charged with Culpable Homicide After 4 People Die in Cradock Crash

A truck driver has been charged with four counts of culpable homicide following a fatal crash on the N10 near Cradock that claimed four lives on Saturday morning. The development was confirmed by Unathi Binqose, spokesperson for the Department of Transport, who said the driver will appear in the Cradock Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 8 September.

The small town of Cradock is reeling in shock after the accident, which happened just after 08:00 on Saturday, about 20 km outside the town on the road towards Cookhouse.

A light motor vehicle carrying four local residents collided with a side tipper truck, and both vehicles burst into flames shortly after impact, leaving rescuers with little chance to save those trapped inside.

The victims have been named as Christelle Swanepoel, Janke Pressley, Michelle Collarossi and Jason Burton. Their sudden deaths have sent waves of grief through the community, where all four were described as vibrant and much-loved individuals.
