A truck driver appears to have caused a serious crash after repeatedly taking his hands off the steering wheel while reaching towards the bunk in the cabin.
The incident, captured on dashcam video, shows the truck travelling steadily along what appears to be a straight stretch of highway. The driver, who appears to be elderly and presumably has many years of driving experience, initially seems to have complete control of the vehicle.
However, the situation changes when he leaves the steering wheel and moves towards the bunk bed behind him, apparently trying to reach something at the other end of the cabin.
The driver quickly returns to the steering wheel and checks whether the truck is still travelling safely. When he appears satisfied that everything is fine, he repeats the manoeuvre.
Again, he returns to the steering wheel shortly afterwards.
But on the third attempt, disaster strikes.
The driver leaves the steering wheel and reaches back towards the bunk. Within moments, the truck begins drifting off the road.
He immediately attempts to regain control, but his steering inputs are unable to bring the truck back safely. The vehicle leaves the roadway and crashes violently.

Experience is not a substitute for vigilance
Looking at the age of the driver, it is evident that he may have many years of driving experience. But experience can sometimes create a dangerous sense of comfort and overconfidence.
Human error remains a major factor in road crashes, with distraction being one of the key contributors.
From what is visible in the video, the crash appears to have been entirely preventable.
Experienced drivers, in particular, have a responsibility to remain alert, disciplined and committed to safe driving. Years behind the wheel should strengthen a driver’s awareness and judgement, rather than lead to complacency.
No matter how experienced a driver is, a momentary lapse in concentration can have devastating consequences.
A few seconds spent reaching for something in the cabin can be enough to lose control of a heavy vehicle travelling at highway speed.
Professional driving is not measured only by the number of years behind the wheel, but by the discipline, awareness and responsibility demonstrated on every journey.
