A truck driver from Gundo Bulk Logistics has died under suspicious circumstances after an alleged assault by employees of a waste management company near Brakpan.
The deceased, identified as Taurai Chiveso, was found lifeless in his truck on Friday evening at EnviroServ’s Holfontein Landfill site. He was still seated behind the wheel when security personnel made the grim discovery.
Although the official cause of death has not yet been established, sources at the landfill allege that Chiveso had been involved in a confrontation the previous day. According to those familiar with the incident, a road dispute on Thursday between his truck and a company minibus carrying EnviroServ employees escalated badly.
The minibus is said to have followed Chiveso until he reached the landfill entrance, where several men allegedly dragged him from his truck and assaulted him before releasing him.
Despite the ordeal, Chiveso managed to complete his offloading duties and later left the site. When he returned on Friday for another delivery, witnesses reported that he appeared to be in severe pain but went ahead with his offloading.
Hours later, security guards found him dead in his driver’s seat.
