A truck driver was injured after protesters allegedly pelted his vehicle with bricks during violent protest action in the Prospecton area near Isipingo on Wednesday afternoon.
According to KZN VIP Emergency Contact Centre, the driver had just exited a container depot when a group of protesters allegedly began throwing bricks at his truck.
One of the projectiles reportedly smashed through a window and struck the driver on the head, causing injuries.
The protest was reportedly being monitored by law enforcement officials at the time of the incident. However, the situation escalated when members of the crowd allegedly targeted the truck as it attempted to leave the area.
Reports indicate that after the truck was struck, several individuals allegedly burst bottles and attempted to assault the injured driver. Law enforcement officers intervened and dispersed the crowd before the situation could worsen.
The protesters are understood to have fled the area following the intervention.

Despite sustaining injuries, the driver reportedly left the scene immediately due to concerns for his safety and intends seeking private medical treatment. The severity of his injuries has not yet been confirmed.
The incident highlights the dangers faced by truck drivers when protests spill onto major transport routes and industrial areas. Prospecton remains a critical logistics hub in KwaZulu-Natal, with thousands of trucks moving through the area daily to service Durban’s port and surrounding industries.
Emergency services, law enforcement agencies and other relevant stakeholders responded to the scene.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
