A Zambian truck driver tragically lost his life after his vehicle collided with 11 others on the N3 Durban-bound just before the Mariannhill Toll Gate on Friday evening.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services spokesperson Garrith Jamieson described the scene as one of “carnage and chaos,” with six trucks and five light motor vehicles involved in the devastating crash.
“Approximately 15 people sustained various injuries, with multiple individuals entrapped in the wreckage. More ambulances and advanced life support paramedics were dispatched to assist. The eThekwini Fire Department was also called in for rescue operations,” said Jamieson.
Emergency personnel worked tirelessly to stabilize the injured before transporting them to Durban hospitals for further care. Despite their best efforts, the truck driver driving for Z-Mart was declared dead on the scene after being found severely entrapped in his vehicle.
