A truck driver lost his life in the early hours of Friday morning, 15 August 2025, when his rig slammed into the back of another truck on the N3 Durban-bound near Estcourt.
According to IPSS Medical Rescue, paramedics arrived to find the two trucks badly tangled after the high-impact collision. The driver of the rear truck had sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
Another occupant in the truck was found critically injured and trapped in the wreckage. IPSS Advanced Life Support paramedics worked to stabilise the patient while ILM Estcourt Fire Department crews used specialised equipment to cut them free.
The patient was later transported by IPSS Medical Rescue to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The N3 Durban-bound carriageway was heavily affected while emergency services worked on the scene, with traffic backed up for several kilometres.
