Truck driver locked up for Van Reenens Pass crash that killed bus driver

A 30-year-old truck driver has been arrested in connection with the Van Reenens Pass Greyhound bus and truck accident that killed the bus driver.

The bus driver, 54, was killed in the N3 accident in the Free State on Tuesday morning 22 December 2020.

Seven passengers were injured in the crash.

Free State police spokesperson Motantsi Makhele said that driver is facing culpable homicide charges and will appear before the Harrismith Magistrate Court within the next 48 hours.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Greyhound bus – which was headed in the Harrismith direction – reportedly collided with the trailer of a truck that was turning right into the Caltex Garage outside Van Reenen.

Makhele said that the 54-year-old Greyhound driver was killed on impact whilst seven passengers were moderately injured and received medical attention at the scene.
