Truck Driver on Phone Veers Off Road – Incident Caught on Dashcam

If multitasking were an Olympic sport, this truck driver would be disqualified on moral grounds.

A dashcam video doing the rounds shows the man behind the wheel of a fully loaded truck whose primary mission of the day wasn’t driving – no, that was clearly just a background activity.

The real task at hand? Quality time with his cellphone.

From the start, it’s clear his steering wheel was merely a placeholder while he conducted important affairs on his mobile device.

The road ahead? Only worthy of a glance when the screen went dull or his thumb needed a breather.

Occasionally, perhaps out of guilt or curiosity, he’d lift his eyes and offer the road a brief inspection.

But then, as if reassured that gravity was still doing its thing, he’d dive straight back into whatever was going on in the palm of his hand.

This went on for kilometres… until, in a very unsurprising twist, he forgot the part where roads have edges.

The truck eventually wandered off like a lost sheep, gracefully exiting the tar at 75 km/h and heading into the unknown – embankment, ditch, or possibly the express lane to unemployment.

It’s hard to say what exactly was so riveting on his phone – maybe WhatsApp, maybe TikTok, maybe just sweet nothings with someone who clearly wasn’t going to pay his bills.

Whatever it was, it had more of his attention than the multi-ton rig he was supposed to be controlling.

The coordinates on the dashcam show that the crash happened near the town of Kei Mouth, on the N2 highway between East London and Mthatha.

This isn’t just distracted driving – this is a whole new genre: substitute driving, where the real job gets sidelined while you freelance as a full-time phone addict.

The ending? Predictable. The lesson? If your eyes are glued to your screen, your truck will eventually go where your focus is – off the road.

And as the truck finally thuds to a halt in the bushes, the driver can be heard swearing, “S**t!” A raw, honest reaction – but one has to wonder… was that aimed at the truck? The phone? The road? Or maybe, just maybe, himself.
