A truck driver has been hospitalised after sustaining serious injuries in a crash on the N3 southbound near the Peter Brown Avenue bridge in Pietermaritzburg during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to early reports, the driver lost control of the heavy vehicle for unknown reasons before it collided with the centre concrete barrier.
The impact was so severe that the cab detached from the chassis.
Emergency services rushed to the scene where paramedics stabilised the injured driver before transporting him to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Traffic in the area was heavily affected as recovery crews worked through the morning to clear the wreckage and spillages.
