A truck driver was shot and killed during a suspected robbery on Quality Street in Jacobs, south of Durban, on Friday morning.
According to information from the scene, the driver was allegedly walking to work when he was confronted by two suspected robbers approximately 100 metres from his workplace.
Witnesses working at a nearby construction site said a vehicle stopped alongside the road before two men got out and approached the victim. A struggle reportedly broke out between the truck driver and the suspects.
During the confrontation, the suspects allegedly fired two shots, striking the man in the head and abdomen before fleeing the scene.
Emergency medical services responded to the incident, but the victim had already succumbed to his injuries. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.
The motive is believed to have been robbery, although the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
Police were at the scene gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses as part of their investigation. No arrests had been reported at the time of publication.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been officially released pending notification of his next of kin.
The fatal shooting has left members of the local community and fellow truck drivers shocked, highlighting the ongoing concerns over violent crime faced by commuters and workers travelling to and from their places of employment.
