A truck driver was shot and injured during a violent armed robbery late on Saturday night, 11 October 2025, along Siphosethu Road in Mount Edgecombe, north of Durban.

According to KZN VIP, their Control Centre received reports of a shooting at around 23h45 and immediately dispatched response officers and medics to the scene.

Upon arrival, KZN VIP officers found SAPS members already on-site inside the Sugarmill grounds. The driver told officers that he had been sleeping inside his company truck when he was woken by someone knocking on the door. When he asked who it was, one of the suspects allegedly replied that they were there to work.

The driver reportedly refused to open the door, and that’s when the suspect smashed the driver’s side window and fired a shot, hitting him in the right shoulder.

During the chaos, another suspect is believed to have tied up the on-site security guard using his own shoelaces before stealing valuables and fleeing the scene.

Police have since launched an investigation into the incident. No arrests had been made at the time of publication.
