Durban – Three people including the truck driver succumbed to their injuries and two other people have sustained serious injuries after the truck in which they were travelling veered off the road in the Swayimane, Watburg and went over a cliff yesterday afternoon.

Midlands EMS arrived on the scene and were shown to where the truck had left the road by the local community.

Due to the height of the cliff, paramedics gathered their primary response equipment and started to walk down to the scene.

They had to go into the valley and cross a river to make their way back towards the incident.

Once arriving at the vehicle they found three occupants all males whom had been ejected from the falling truck.

All three had sustained fatal injuries and were declared deceased on scene.

The paramedics were told that two other occupants from the truck had been taken privately to hospital with serious injuries before emergency personal had arrived on the scene.

It is believed that the truck had started to have mechanical issues and lost control of his vehicle.

It went off the road reserve down an embankment for about 150m before plummeting off the cliff face.

SAPS from Wartburg along with SAPS Search and Rescue were called to the scene to investigate the incident further.
