#TruckAttacks | Attackers badly assault truck driver after petrol bomb fails to ignite IMG 20210129 WA00432 compress93

A 50-year-old South African truck driver was severely beaten after truck attackers threw a petrol bomb into his truck but failed to ignite on R59 last night.

Not satisfied with smashing the driver’s window, the attackers dragged the driver out of his cab and beat him to pulp.

Fleetwatch reported that the man is in hospital recovering from the assault injuries.

The victim is one of five whose trucks were attacked on Thursday 28 January 2021 around 23h00.

Five trucks were attacked at 23h00 last night on the R59 near the Kliprivier off-ramp by a group of men using petrol bombs.

Two of the trucks were totally burnt and destroyed while a third caught alight but the driver managed to put the fire out using his fire extinguisher.

Two other trucks had their cab side windows smashed.

According to Fleetwatch, the other drivers are safe with one of the drivers and his assistant managing to run into the veld where they hid.

The truck attacks happened in the same area where 26 trucks were attacked in November 2020 and noone has yet been arrested for the arson attacks.

This is so disheartening that attacks keep on happening in known hotspots with authorities failing to pick up information before they happen.

SA Trucker wishes a speedy recovery to the injured truck driver, his offence was to fend for his family.
