A serious rear-end collision in the early hours of this Wednesday morning on the N1 highway between Colesburg and Hanover has left a truck driver in critical condition.
The accident occurred at a “stop-and-go” construction area just after Colesburg when a truck crashed into the back of an Intercape bus that had stopped to yield to oncoming traffic.
A trucker who arrived at the scene shortly after the crash reported that the truck hit the bus with such force that the driver was left severely entrapped in the cab.
Emergency fire services responded swiftly, working tirelessly to extricate the driver from the wreckage.
After being freed, he was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
Currently, the number of injured passengers from the bus remains unclear.

However, with the force of the collision, there are concerns that some passengers may have sustained injuries.
Accidents at stop-and-go zones are too common, particularly on routes like the N1 where construction work requires frequent stops.
Motorists on this route are advised to exercise extreme caution around stop-and-go areas and to be mindful of vehicles braking ahead.
