Trucker killed another injured in Mokopane two truck crash IMG 20210702 WA0196

A truck driver has been killed while another survived with minor injuries when their trucks collided in Mokopane in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to Petro Jansen van Vuuren, founder of Mokopane Accidents, the fatal crash happened on the Geyser street and Thabo Mbeki drive intersection at around 02h30.

One driver sustained serious injuries and was certified dead on arrival at the hospital. The second driver sustained minor injuries, Van Vuuren said.

According to reports the one truck transporting soya beans was turning into Thabo Mbeki when it was hit by the second truck which was transporting cement.

Both trucks lost their loads and as a result several intersections have been closed to allow the the scene to be cleared of debris.

Thabo Mbeki Drive is closed to allow clean up operations to proceed safely.

The affected streets are as follows:

Voor and Ruiter streets, JG Strydom Street, Totius Street and Hooge Street.

Traffic is being diverted and motorists who are travelling to Mookgophong are urged to use the alternative N1 road.
