Truckers Urged Avoid Night Driving on Masvingo–Chibi Detour After Another Brazen Robbery Caught on Camera

Truckers are once again being warned to avoid travelling at night along the treacherous Masvingo–Chibi detour in Zimbabwe following yet another violent robbery – this time caught on camera.

In the chilling footage shared with SA Trucker, a driver is seen crawling slowly along the bumpy, dusty stretch when two robbers suddenly pounce. One of them manages to open the door while the truck is still moving, jumps in, and forces the terrified driver to stop. Screams of terror can be heard as the driver realises what’s happening.

The thugs then rob him of his money and cellphone before ordering him to park the truck on the roadside. The video ends before showing what happens next, but the pattern is familiar – these criminals target slow-moving trucks, especially at night, when the risk of being seen is low.

This latest attack comes just days after another truck driver tragically succumbed to injuries from a similar incident on the same stretch. He had been robbed and brutally beaten the previous week. Despite being rushed to hospital in critical condition, he sadly passed away on Tuesday night.

The area has become a notorious hotspot for attacks, especially on detours created by stalled roadworks. Just weeks ago, SA Trucker reported that a Swazi trucker working for Mother Truckers was ambushed along the Rutenga–Ngundu detour. He was hit with a machete and left with serious head injuries.

Truckers are urged to avoid this route after dark at all costs. If you must travel through, convoy with others, avoid stopping, and keep doors locked.

Your safety is more important than any delivery schedule.

Truckers, don’t be the next victim. Stay alert. Stay alive.
